Walking under the Moon - Furoshiki by Sleepless Kao
Nikkei National Museum ShopI made a furoshiki in Japan.
Furoshiki are simple pieces of fabric with a rich history. They were originally used mainly as wrapping cloths, but they’re also enjoyed these days in Japan and abroad for their decorative qualities.
I often use furoshiki in my daily life, so I wanted to have a furoshiki with my own design. It is useful not only for wrapping things, for bags and tablecloths. It is 100% cotton, it can be used for scarves as well.
Size 70x70cm
100% cotton

Sleepless Kao is an artist-in-motion who graduated from art school Setsu Mode in Tokyo, specializing in fashion illustration. Since then, she travelled to live and work in San Francisco, Hong Kong, and now Vancouver. She creates her own world of eccentric creatures and personalities which bloom into the void: gigantic space dotted with tiny, intimate kinships and spirits bumping into one another, all of which together narrate signs of life across Sleepless Kao’s dreamy and imaginative universe.
She also makes children’s books for Simply Read Books (Vancouver) and is involved professionally in the production of The Bulletin/Geppo, a Japanese/English bilingual community publication run by the Greater Vancouver Japanese Canadian Citizens’ Association, where she works as an Editor.
